Ben Green

Singer/Songwriter

Ben Green was born and raised in NYC. Growing up in a literary household (his Mother Sheila a successful writer/Illustrator), Ben started playing piano at age 4, and writing by age 8 mostly songs and short stories.

After graduating Skidmore College, Ben pursued a musical career signing an artist/writers deal with SBK Records and EMI Music Publishing. During that time his songs appeared in several movies and were covered by artists including Buddy Miles and Warren Hill.

In 2002 Ben released a self titled CD through Artemis records. His single “Two To One” went top 30 making the Years 100 most played list on AC radio. Subsequent releases also received significant airplay.

Ben Green

Released March 26, 2002 on the Artemis label. On his self-titled debut, romantic singer/songwriter Ben Green safely steers his music down the middle of the road that has been well traveled by Bruce Hornsby and Marc Cohn, performing breathy odes about love and travel with grand pop orchestration and heartfelt lyrics. Many of the songs have a warm, comforting feel and texture, and it isn’t until the accordion intro to his lovesong to his car entitled “My Citroen”, where the mood changes to a loose carnival atmosphere. After the intro however, the song slows back down, the album finds its familiar groove.

World's Fair

Ben’s CD World’s Fair is an edgy follow up to his 2002 charting debut. Featuring performances by notable musicians and artists including Phoebe Snow, Chris Botti and Jerry Marotta, World’s Fair showcases many collaborative talents. At times thoughtful and introspective, Ben nevertheless resists taking himself too seriously. “Broken Man”, a song about domestic violence and codependence is balanced by “Supermarket Clams”, a humorous look at clams that end up in shrink wrap at the grocery. Embellished by the horn and string arrangements of Rob Mathis, Ben’s new CD is a multilayered exploration of life and all its complexities.

1. I'm Gonna Fly

“Green tempted the hand of solo greatness via a wayward publishing deal with EMI and recording contract with SBK but achieved a modicum of songwriting success. He gives it another go on his own with "Sheryl Crow," based on a dream he had where the two shared friendly philosophical musings at a Starbucks. Who can't relate to the occasional celebrity fantasy that seems so real it's worth storytelling? She tells him, "I'm here cause I need time to do an average thing/ And get back to the inspiration that makes me sing." Green commands vocals, piano and acoustic guitar, which should earn trust at triple-A not to mention a warm-up spot on Crow's next tour, eh? Not since "Bette Davis Eyes" has homage been as spirited. ” - Chuck Taylor
